Meet the winners of the #speakstandards video competition
A team of four from Mexico has won first prize in the #speakstandards video competition. Their video highlighting the importance of standardized graphical symbols in our daily life received half of the nearly 6,500 public votes.
The #speakstandards video competition challenged people to imagine how difficult life would be without international standards, and capture it in a 15-second video.
Ranging in age from 30 to 15 years old, the members of the winning team were Gabriel Enrique Hernández García, who works for the multimedia and innovation section of a certification body; Norma Noemí Herrera Ramírez, a biomedical engineer; Edgar Antonio Hernández García, a graphic designer; and Miguel Ángel Romero Cortés, an enthusiastic teenager with a love for football.
Their video illustrates how standards provide a common language, and just how simple and universal this language can be…
The video competition aimed to raise awareness of the importance of international standards in anticipation of World Standards Day, celebrated each year on 14 October, which in 2015 takes the theme: “Standards – the world’s common language”.
The competition was an initiative of the World Standards Cooperation (WSC), the banner under which IEC, ISO and ITU collaborate to strengthen and advance the voluntary consensus-based international standards system.
Meet the competition’s winners and runners-up, and view more of the videos submitted, in a feature story on the WSC website.
