ITU Secretary-General Elect Houlin Zhao named Honorary Citizen of Busan

It is a great honour to receive the Honorary Citizenship of Busan immediately after being elected as the next ITU Secretary-General in the wonderful and dynamic city.

I would like to congratulate the Republic of Korea on leading the development of ICT, which allowed Korea, and Busan in particular, to be the ideal venue for hosting ITU PP-14 – the supreme conference of ITU and its 193 Member States, which is setting the strategic directions for telecommunications and ICTs in the future.

The city of Busan has honoured me personally, and has also honoured ITU over the past three weeks at PP-14 – through its sponsorship of the Young Industry Leaders Programme, and in particular by funding 35 young delegates from the world’s Least Developed Countries to attend the conference.
